Why do people row dragon boats

during the Dragon Boat Festival?

People rowed boats into the river to try and save Qu Yuan. However,
by the time they got there, Qu Yuan was long gone.
Hence, they thought of rowing dragon boats to scare away the fishes in the river so that they would not attack Qu Yuan's corpse.
And now every year on the 5th day of the 5th month on the lunar calendar, people would row dragon boats to commemorate the death of Qu Yuan.

Dragon boat racing can be dated back to more than 2000 years ago. Originally, it was only a mean of commemoration, now it has become a renowned sport worldwide.

Every year many races are held all over the world like the Guangzhou International Dragon Boat Racing Tournament where athletes from various countries like America, Australia, Singapore, Canada and many more come together to take part in this race.
